StatusNetLogo.jpgThe company that TechCrunch says wants to become the WordPress of microblogging now has $875,000 more with which to do so, as StatusNet closed an $875,000 seed round from investors including Montreal Start Up, iNovia Capital, Fotolia co-founder Oleg Tscheltzoff and Xavier Niel.

StatusNet created open-source microblogging software platform laconi.ca, since renamed status.net, which users can download and run on their own servers, and the company is working on a hosted version that is currently in private beta, TechCrunch reported.

The company recently added former Wikipedia chief technology officer Brion Vibber as senior software architect, along with former Creative Commons community manager Jon Phillips, according to TechCrunch.
