    Brian,

    Good post. i have this very problem. Writing is not my strong point. That is why I try to do it as often and possible. I find my posts going off point. One culprit is the world of 140 characters, Twitter.

    My solution to the tangential problem – write, stop, go for a walk or listen to music, then come back to the post with fresh eyes and clear head. Often this helps me refocus the ideas in the post.
